Take us through a typical day at Bailey for you…

I’ve retired from most of the day-to-day activities.  However, I now look after finance in the European office. I also tend to check in with the UK and make sure they are running smoothly, keep in touch with our customers that originally joined me almost 40 years ago and ensure all is well in general.

What’s your favourite thing about working for Bailey?

Hard work gets recognised and rewarded.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your job and how do you overcome it?

Remaining in close contact with the business even though I am now retired and based in a different country to the main operations.

What advice would you give to someone who would like to work as an Entrepreneur?

Always take responsibility when things go wrong and compliment others when things go well.  Keep on training and attending courses, knowledge is a powerful tool to building trust not only with your customers but with your own workforce.

What three words would you use to describe the company?

1. Reliable
2. Honest
3. Innovative

Do you have any nickname? What is it?

At school I was called Gilly, but it has been a while since someone called me that.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A beef stew made by my wife finished with bread and gravy!

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

1. My wife
2. Fishing gear
3. Matches

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Sleep and spend time with my family and especially my grandchildren.

What is on your bucket list?

Learn to operate the computer and to speak Dutch!

If you were given a choice, where in the world would you like to go?

The Caribbean, especially as we have an office there now.
