Construction and manufacturing industries enjoy growth

Britain’s manufacturing and construction sectors ended 2016 on a positive note, as reports from the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in December showed growth for both industries. The PMI calculates economic health and reviews five major areas: new orders, inventory levels, production, supplier deliveries and the employment environment.
The construction PMI rose to 54.2 in December from 52.8 in November, which signals it is expanding at its fastest pace in 9 months (any figure over 50 indicates expansion). The manufacturing PMI posted 56.1 in December, hitting a two and a half year high.
These reports buck fears over the predicted downturn in the UK’s construction industry on the back of uncertainty surrounding Brexit negotiations. In fact, the weak pound is encouraging overseas orders and boosting growth.
